Ronald “Ronnie” Rustad, age 57, of Decorah, IA, died on Thursday, May 15, 2015, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah IA after living with Cerebral Palsy.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave, Decorah, IA.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00p.m., on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue in Decorah, and also after 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
Ronald Otis Rustad was born March 26, 1958, the son of Otis and Mary (Harvey) Rustad at the Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa. Ronnie was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Locust on June 2, 1975, by Rev. Doliver Thorson. Ronnie attended and graduated from Decorah High School on May 22, 1977. Ronnie worked at Fadness Texaco from June to November 1977. He pumped gas, filled the pop machine and did secretarial work. He then worked for Spectrum Industries in Decorah from July 1, 1997 to September 19, 2000. Ronnie also was a greeter at Wal-Mart and was very proud of that job. The happiest day of Ronnie’s life was when he was united in marriage to Katherine Strelow on May 12, 2001. His hobbies include playing cards, visiting relatives and making friends where ever he went. He also liked to gamble and go out to eat. Ronnie was a member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. He served as Board Member for of the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, Great Strides for the Handicap and the Citizens Advisory Board for Winneshiek County. He also is an Honorary member of the V.F.W. and the Decorah Fire Department. He has been a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge for over 20 years. In 2007 Ronnie became a Jehovah’s Witness, and was a member of the Waukon Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include his wife: Katherine Rustad, Decorah, IA. Three sisters: Kathie Rustad, Decorah, IA; Kristie Rustad, Decorah, IA and Wendy Rustad, Council Bluffs, IA. One brother: Gary Rustad and wife Bev, Decorah, IA; one nephew: Alex Rustad and one niece: Paige Rustad, along with many aunts and uncles and several cousins.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Mary (Harvey) Rustad; Grandparents: Abe & Olena Rustad and Harry and Myrtle Harvey. Aunts and Uncles: Faye Harvey, Roy (Hazel) Harvey, Florence (Charles) Baker, Lila (Kenneth) Darling, Warren (Inez) Harvey, Clyde (Rose) Harvey, Lucille (Charles) Tollefsrud, Pearl (Francis) Darling, Wilma (Jerry)Thorson, Virginia Holkesvik, Russell Rustad, Edward Rustad and Adeline Rustad, along with several cousins.
