Elsie Florence (Duff) Allen
RITES FOR MRS. ALLENFuneral services were conducted at the community Church in Frankville, following a brief service at the Henry Schweinefus home here on Monday afternoon, December 24, for Mrs. George Allen, who passed away at Postville Hospital, Saturday morning, December 22, 1951.
Mrs. Allen had been ailing from a diabetic condition for about a year, but her death had been fully unexpected until a few days before when she became ill at her home and was taken to the hospital. The funeral was largely attended.
Rev. Ebert of the Monona and Postville U. B. churches officiated at the services. A nephew, Allen Crabtree, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Crabtree of near Waterloo, sang two numbers, "Jesus Cares" and "Abide With Me."
Elsie Florence Duff was born April 15, 1883 to Isaac and Janet Duff, in Frankville township. On December 17, 1902, she united in holy matrimony with George Allen. This union was blessed with eight children, two sons, Lenard, of Postville and Leslie, of Frankville; six daughters, Mrs. Henry Schweinefus (Bernice), Mrs. George Hougen, (Blanch) of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Mrs. Ruben Monroe, (June) of Castalia, Mrs. Elmer Vine (Mabel) and Mrs. Orville Ruen, (Geneva) of Decorah, and Mrs. Clifford Hughes, (Jerrine) deceased, who preceded her mother in death five years ago. One brother, Will Duff of Ossian, 21 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends are also left to mourn her passing.
Mrs. Allen will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but memory will linger. As a devoted wife and mother she typified the ideal in that her first concern was always for her loved ones.
