Lydia Ann Beebe was born Nov. 27, 1838, at Granville, Washington Co., N. Y. With her parents she moved to Elgin, Ill. in 1839, and here her father died when she was three years of age. After the death of her mother in 1855 she came to Freeport, Iowa, where she made her home. She was one of a family of seven children of whom only one brother, Gideon Beebe, of Green Island, Iowa remains. July 5, 1858, she was united in marriage to Oscar Frederick Miller at Freeport, and four children blessed their union, Mrs. Romeo Padden and Mrs. Phil Brouillet of Frankville, Charles of Decorah and Sarah at home. The family moved to Frankville in the spring of 1894 and here she has since resided. About 35 years age she joined the Methodist church at Centennial and until her health failed always took an active part in the church and Sunday school work. For nearly 63 years Mr. and Mrs. Miller have traveled life’s pathway together, sharing alike its joys and sorrows, and although for many years she has been an invalid her husband and daughter Sarah have been constantly by her side lovingly and patiently doing the many things needed for her comfort. God called her at 1:30 Saturday morning, May 14, 1921, and she passed away quietly from sleep into eternal rest, having attained the ripe old age of 82 years, 5 months and 17 days. Besides the husband and children, eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren are left to cherish her memory. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Community church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. C. B. Peck, and she was laid to rest in the village cemetery. Relatives from away who were present were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller and Doris Amsey Miller, Francis Padden and wife of Decorah, Herbie Padden of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Robinson of Freeport, Miss Bernice Brouillet of Decorah, Charley Beebe, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Beebe and J. W. Reede and wife of Oelwein and Mrs. Fred Swartz of Green Island, Ia. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved ones in the loss of their beloved wife and mother.
