Harold Leo Scheidel, son of Fred J. and Jeanette (Luzum) Scheidel was born July 23, 1924 in rural Ossian Military Township in Winneshiek County. He died Saturday morning September 24, 1994, at his home in Ossian after a short illness.

He was baptized July 27, 1924, received his first communion in May of 1931, and was confirmed Dec. 16. 1939, by Archbishop Beckman, all at St. Francis De Sales Church.

He married Pearl Schultz Oct 7, 1948 and raised three children.

Harold graduated from De Sales School in 1942. He was a man of many trades primarily farming and road construction. He was self-employed as a cream hauler to Silver Springs Creamery of Ossian. He also worked at Frudden Lumber Co., Interstate Power Co., and Reilly's Tavern. He started farming in 1955 and also owned and operated Scheidel's Trucking for 10 years. Harold started working at Reilly Construction Co. Inc., in 1947 as a heavy equipment operator and was a part-time employee until the time of his illness.

He was a lifetime member of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church and its Rosary Society, and the Winneshiek County Farm Bureau. He was interested in fishing, traveling, and card playing. He also had a hobby of plowing snow for the community.

Preceding him in death were his father, Fred J. Scheidel; his mother, Jeanette C. Scheidel; and a sister, Gladys Scheidel; and a brother Richard Scheidel.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl of Ossian; a daughter, Barbara Scheidel of Postville; two sons, Michael and Deb Scheidel of Ossian; and Mark and Nancy Scheidel of Ossian. Five granddaughters, a brother Fred and an uncle Al; two aunts Marcie Scheidel and Mayme (Luzum) Walleck; a nephew and eight nieces.

Funeral Services were held Sept. 27th, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis De Sales Catholic church in Ossian. Rev. Richard Kuhn officiated. Lector was Rev. Wayne Ellingson. Organist was Diane Stee. Soloists were Don Di Laura and Sue Lienau. Mass servers were Shane Lansing, Stephanie Bohr and Shelby Lansing. Casket bearers were Willard Holien, Lester Torresday, Orville Winger, Victor Halverson, Robert M. Reilly, Kermin Anfinson, David Breitsprecher and Wayne Sender. Burial was at the St. Francis De Sales Cemetery. The Schmitz Funeral Home of Ossian handled arrangements.
