Decorah- On July 27, at Freeport, Ludwig E. Hanson, 81, died. Funeral services were conducted Saturday by the Rev. G. A. Sundby from the Steine funeral home, with burial in the Freeport cemetery.

Hanson was born Jan 7, 1869, in Minneapolis. His first residence in Winneshiek county was at Calmar, coming to Decorah three years ago. In 1899 he was married to Emily Krall, who died last April.

Surviving is one son, Melvin Hanson, Racine, Wis., and one brother, Benjamin Hanson, Freeport, Ill. Four grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

Ludwig E. Hanson, 81, of Decorah died Thursday at Freeport from infirmities of old age. He had been ill for three months.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 29, at Steines Funeral Home with Rev. G.A.Sundby officiating. Burial was at Freeport. Pallbearers were Roy Dinger, Harvey Hanson, Olaf Olson, Norton Folkedahl, Otis Borlaug and Thomas Borlaug.

The deceased was born January 7, 1869 at Minneapolis. He settled first in Calmar and moved to Decorah three years ago. He married Emily Krall at Decorah in 1899. One child was born to this union.

Surviving is one son, Melvin Hanson, Racine, Wisc. He was preceded in death by his wife in April, 1950. In addition to his son, he is survived by a brother, Benjamin Hanson, Freeport, Ill., four grandchildren, Mary Alice Hanson, Leone Hanson, David Hanson and Mrs. Amos Helpap, all of Racine and a great granddaughter, Julie Ann Helpap.

Harvey Hanson and Mrs. Roy Dinger of Decorah are a nephew and niece of the deceased. Attending the funeral from a distance were a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Melvin Hanson and family from Racine, Wisc., and Mr. and Mrs. Amos Helpap of Racine. Hanson was a member of the Lutheran Church.
