Decorah- Richard Lester Bergan, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bergan, was fatally injured near his home on the middle Hesper road, eight miles north of here, about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, when the sled he was riding on was struck by a car.

The accident occurred when the boy was coasting from a driveway at the farm of his grandfather, John Jaagstad, where he lived with his parents.

Sheriff George Harms said the sled was struck by the rear wheel of a car driven by Lester Erickson, who lives nearby.

Coroner Harry Steine said that the wheel of the car passed over the boy's body, fatally injuring him.

The boy died while being taken to the Decorah hospital.
