WALTER SCHULTZ

Funeral services were held Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia for Walter H. Schultz who passed away at Iowa City on February 17, 1960. Burial was in Pleasant View cemetery.

Walter Henry Schultz, son of Charles and Anna Thoma Schultz, was born at Postville, Grand Meadow township, August 29, 1887. He passed away at Iowa City on February 17, 1960 at the age of 72 years, five month and 20 days. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville on October 21, 1887 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith March 23, 1902.

On December 30, 1914 he was united in marriage to Elsie Schroeder of Castalia. To this union was born six sons and one daughter; Everett, Violet (Mrs. E. K. Smith) of Sioux City, Ralph of Ossian, Ronald of Monona, Kenneth of Castalia, Lavern of Castalia, and Charles of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his son, Everett on June 12, 1950; his parents; five brothers and four sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing his widow; five sons and one daughter; 15 grandchildren; one brother, Luver of Postville; two sisters, Libbie and Elsa of Postville.

Mr. Schultz served as marshal of Castalia for 39 years. He had the distinction of having five sons in World War II at the same time and a sixth son just received his honorable discharge from service. He worked with the railroad 27 years having "hung the mail" for the Milwaukee Railroad for 15 years.

People from a distance who attended his funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Emil Arndt, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Arndt, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Arndt, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Arndt, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Nuehring, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Nuehring, Mrs. George Smith, Mrs. John Paulson, all of Nora Springs; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kramer and Mr. and Mrs. Adam Haegel of Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Smith of Sioux City, and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Kotz of Plymouth.
