Mrs. Hamilton (Abbie Eliza Angier) Campbell

Abbie Eliza Angier was born in Westport, New York, March 21, 1857, and passed from this life at Castalia, Iowa, November 16, 1936, at the age of 79 years, seven months and 26 days.

At the age of nine years she with her parents moved to Garnavillo, Iowa, where they remained for one year, coming to Winneshiek county in 1867.

She was married to Hamilton Campbell, March 1st, 1881, at Ossian, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Campbell took up residence on what is known as "The Old Homestead Farm," which was established by his parents in 1848, or 88 years ago, and have resided within the county continuously since that time, and with the exception of twelve years which were spent in Decorah, Iowa, they have always resided on this farm, where on March 1, 1936, they were privileged to celebrate their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Campbell were the parents of three children, Walter, who passed away July 16, 1931; Roy, who lives near Castalia, and Lulu at home.

Mrs. Campbell was converted unto God and became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Decorah, Iowa, where she was a regular attendant at church so long as health permitted.

She leaves to mourn her loss her aged husband; two children, Roy and Lulu; one granddaughter, Miss Carolyn Campbell of Charles City, and a host of friends.

And thus do we briefly chronicle the history of one of the best known women of this locality, a woman whose life for almost four-score years has become a wholesome portion of the history of Winneshiek county. First, and best of all, she was a fine type of christian woman, who with wonderful fortitude and faithfulness shared the toil and hardships that fell to the lot of the pioneers as they hewed from the fertile prairies of Iowa a farm and a home, and she also lived long to enjoy the blessings that came as a reward for her labors. She was a faithful and devoted wife and loving mother, and a staunch and steadfast friend, who along the pathway of her life was never so busy but that she could lend a helping hand to minister to and sympathize with those distressed. And hence it is that as she has come to the end of her toilsome journey she leaves behind her a host of warm friends to mourn her passing and to sincerely sympathize with those bound to her by a closer tie.

The funeral was held from the home on Thursday afternoon last at two o'clock, conducted by the Rev. L. E. Crippen, pastor of the United Brethren church of Castalia. interment was made in Pleasant View cemetery at Castalia.
