RITES HELD FOR MRS. H. L. MEYER

Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia on Sunday for Mrs. Elizabeth Meyer, 82, who passed away last Thursday, October 1. Rev. Edgar Zelle, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, was in charge of the rites. Burial was made in Bloomfield cemetery, Castalia.

Mrs. Elizabeth M. Senholz Meyer was born on May 6, 1871 at Garnavillo, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Senholz. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On June 26, 1890 she was united in marriage with Henry L. Meyer, the ceremony being performed by the late Rev. Gass of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Postville. Four children were born to this union: Velma, Lester, Ruby and Valder.

The couple lived on a farm near Castalia for 55 years. Since 1947, Mrs. Meyer made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ruby Bertelson of Postville. Her health failed in the last months and she passed away last Thursday, October 1. She reached the age of 82 years, four months and 25 days.

She was active in the Ladies Aid Society of the church and had a warm spot in her heart for music, being active in a band organized by Rev. A. E. Guetzlaff, and also in a family orchestra.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Valder; her parents, two brothers, and one sister. She is survived by three children: Mrs. Velma Timmerman, Castalia, Lester Meyer, Maquoketa, and Mrs. Ruby Bertelson, Postville; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Anna Salzgeber and Mrs. Emma Thoma; and a brother, Charles Senholz, all of Postville.
