Anna Althous-Schweinefus was born on May 6, 1871 in Bloomfield township, Winneshiek county. She received her elementary education at a school near her home.

She was united in marriage with Charles Schweinefus on February 25, 1892. The young couple lived one year on the old military road near Castalia and then moved to Dover township in Fayette county until 1916 when they purchased a farm near Castalia. In March of 1945 they moved to their home in Castalia.

The departed met with a serious accident 26 years ago which resulted in her not being able to walk for the past 25 years but forced her to be in wheelchair. She passed from this life last Friday, July 22, at 4:00 p.m. She had reached the age of 78 years.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her husband and ten children: Frank, Mrs. Lizzie Schroeder, Mrs. Lena Everman, Mrs. Tillie Meyer, Mabel, Mrs. Elsie Sampson, Otto, Mrs. Francis Reinhardt, all of Castalia; Mrs. Viola Kohls of Wadena; Mrs. Esther Stoessel of West Union. Also one brother, Henry Althaus of Postville; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Otto and Leo.

Burial was in the cemetery north of Castalia.
