Final Rites Held For Former Resident

Charley William Schweinefus, son of Christian and Martha Arndt Schweinefus, was born at Ossian, October 13, 1891, and died at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines, March 27, 1949. He was 57 years of age.

After living near Ossian for a short time, the family moved to a farm south of Castalia, where he received his early education.

He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and became a member of the Lutheran church by act of confirmation on April 8, 1906.

Mr. Schweinefus, who served in the first World War, saw active service with Company A, Ninth Infantry. Second division at Soisson, France.

He was united in marriage to Emma Reifsteck of Oelwein, November 28, 1922 at Waterloo. The couple made their home on a farm south of Castalia. Due to ill health he retired from the farm and moved to Oelwein in the spring of 1937. One daughter, Norma Jeanne, died in infancy.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife, Emma; a foster daughter, Adelia Marie Martens; three brothers, Frank of Edgeley, North Dakota; Henry, of Clermont and Emil of Castalia. His parents and two sisters preceded him in death.

Services were conducted at the Zion American Lutheran church in Oelwein, March 30, by the Rev. H. E. Dieter. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery of that city. Military rites at the funeral were conducted by the three organizations of which he was a member.
