Services For O. Schweinefus
Funeral services for Otto J. Schweinefus were held Thursday, Feb. 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. The Rev. H. W. Wolfgram officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.
Otto John Schweinefus, son of Charles and Anna (Althouse) Schweinefus, was born Jan. 2, 1911 on a farm south of Ossian. He died Feb. 2 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.
He was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Eldorado, Iowa, and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. He attended the Castalia school.
On Jan. 27, 1934 he was married to Dorothy Jahnke. To this union seven children were born. They farmed most of their life in the Castalia area.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: one in infancy, Leo and Frank, and three sisters: Mabel Schweinefus, Francis Reinhardt and Lena Everman.
Surviving besides his wife, Dorothy, are two sons: Jerry, Mountain View, Ark. and Bradley, Farmington, Minn.; five daughters: Carol (Mrs. Robert Roche), Wilmington, Mass.; Norma (Mrs. Richard Schlee), Postville; Laurie (Mrs. Fred Kesemann), Concordia, Mo.; Ann Thomas, Napa, Calif. and Shirley Marting, Fremont, California; 18 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 5 sisters: "Lizzie" (Elizabeth) Schroeder, Postville, Ia.; Tillie Meyer and Mrs. Millard (Elsie) Sampson, both of Castalia; Viola Kohls, Clermont and Mrs. Donald (Esther) Stoessel, West Union.
