Mrs. Wm. Baker died of consumption Nov. 29, 1887, at her home in Winneshiek county, three miles south of Castalia. Her age was 70 years and 29 days. She leaves to mourn her an aged husband, six sons and eighteen grandchildren. Besides these there were two adopted daughters brought up in the family. These are Mrs. Dean living west of Postville and Mrs. Wells now living in Decorah. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Congregational Church of Postville. She was a woman of ability and of sterling Christian character. She was buried December 1st. in the cemetery at Castalia. The funeral services were held at the house by Rev. J. W. Ferner officiating. A large number of friends and neighbors accompanied the remains to their last resting place.

—The remains of Mrs. Wm. H. Baker are to be brought from Castalia cemetery and re-interred beside those of her husband in the Phelps cemetery this week.
