Decorah- John "Jackie" Carolan, 56, of Mabel, Minn., formerly of Decorah, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, in Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wis., after a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Bluffton, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at French & Balik Funeral Home, Decorah, where a rosary begins at 5, a VFW service begins at 7, and a Scripture service begins at 7:30 p.m. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Survivors include three sons, John and Jason, both of Decorah, and Jarad of Burr Oak; a daughter, Jolene Nierling of Burr Oak; a sister, Sheryl Hayes of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; a brother, Gary of Noblesville, Ind.; his father, John of Caledonia, Wis.; and his mother, Gladys Carolan of Decorah.
