Norma Hilberg, age 79, of Decorah, IA, died on December 30, 2014, at her home in Decorah, IA.

Private family funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the Schluter - Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Matt Larson presiding. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, IA, in the spring.

Friends may call from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, in Decorah. There will be an I.O.O.F. Service at 10:45 a.m., on Saturday morning by the I.O.O.F. Winneshiek Lodge #58.

Norma Marie (Rude) Hilberg was born on February 22, 1935, the daughter of Arnold and Lillie (Larson) Rude, on their family farm in rural Decorah. She attended country school near their home. Norma married Walter Hilberg on March 12, 1953, in Decorah, while Walter was in the Army, stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C. After moving back to Decorah, she worked at K & S Super Valu, the Sugar Bowl, Deco and Vanberia, and did daycare for children for several years. She also was a caregiver; taking wonderful care of her family and parents. Norma enjoyed her flower gardens, reading, and going out for lunch with friends. Above everything else, Norma loved her family, grandchildren and especially her great grandchildren. Norma was a member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church and the I.O.O. F. Winneshiek Lodge #58.

Norma is survived by her four children; Connie (Morten) Strand, Decorah, IA, Walter (Debbie) Hilberg Jr., Fort Atkinson, WI, Dennis Hilberg, Decorah, IA, and Terry (Kristi) Hilberg, York, NE, five grandchildren; Thea (Michael Wroblewski) Strand, Erik Strand, Martin Hilberg, Katherine Jarvis, and Todd (Anja Klingman) Hilberg, four great grandchildren; Elsa and Clara Wroblewski, and Damean and Aiden Hilberg, two step grandchildren, Christian and Zach Taggart, brother; William (Marian) Rude, Decorah, IA, sister; Charlotte Aswegan, Decorah, IA, sister-in-law; Charlotte Wheatman, Peoria, AZ, along with many nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; Arnold and Lillie (Larson) Rude, her husband; Walter on January 27, 2000, two daughters in infancy; Linda and Pamela Hilberg, father-in-law and mother-in-law; Ingemar and Clara Hilberg, brothers-in-law; Alvin Wheatman, Carl (Donna and Florence) Hilberg, and Sidney (Leona) Hilberg, sister-in-law; Olga (Milton) Otteson.
