Halla Minert Bernatz died of Typhoid fever at his home in Decorah at 2 o'clock p.m. Sunday, June 26, 1898, aged 19 years, one month. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Bernatz.

Death also entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Bernatz, on Sunday last, and claimed as its own one of the loved ones of the family. “Hal.” Bernatz, who had been ill for more than two weeks with typhoid fever, died that morning. He was a bright youth just approaching manhood, a dutiful and obedient son, loved and cherished by his parents, esteemed by his friends, and respected by all who knew him. The family have the sincerest sympathy of the community in their bereavement. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at 1:30 o’clock from the house, Rev. A. G. Wilson officiating.

Transcriber's Note: Find a Grave shows his name as Hallie and that he was born June 13, 1879 and died June 26,1898. He is buried in Phelps Cemetery.
