Frankville people were greatly grieved and shocked to learn of the death of one of our old and respected citizens, Israel Birdsell, yesterday morning. He was at his son Gene's plowing and dropped dead without a moment's warning. Dr. Kiesau was called and decided his death was caused by a stroke of apoplexy. Further particulars next week.

Israel Blrdsell was born in Frankvllle township, Sept. 20, 1852, and has lived all his life on the farm where he died Oct. 10, 1904. Last Monday morning he left home in apparently good health, and had gone a short distance to the field, where his son Gene was plowing. His other son Jimmie was also there and the two boys decided to go to a neighbor’s, so he offered to plow until their return. They had started but on looking back saw their father fall in the furrow and hastening back to see what was the matter found that life had fled. They carried him home and telephoned for Dr. Kiesau who pronounced his death due to a stroke of apoplexy. He was married to Miss Flora Kinyon Oct, 13, 1874, and to this union two sons were born, James G. and Eugene R. who with the heart-broken mother are left to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent husband and father. He was the youngest of a family of eight boys, James and Isaac of Frankvllle, and Colin of Decorah were present at the funeral, his other four brothers, who live at some distance away being unable to come. He had made a lovely home for himself and wife and with his sons and their families on their farms near him had thought to spend his remaining years surrounded by his loved ones, but the sudden call of death has made desolate that once happy home. He has ever been a true, upright and honorable citizen and neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand to any in need and his untimely death will be greatly deplored throughout the community. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Centennial church. Rev Robinson officiating, with burial at the same place. To the friends who assisted them and to all who by acts of kindly sympathy and words of condolence made their days of sadness less painfull to bear, the family desire to extend their sincere thanks.

Transcriber's Note: His gravestone in Centennial Cemetery shows his name spelled Birdsell.
