MARGIE ADOLPHA LENTH
Margie Adolpha Lenth, daughter of Alfred and Minnie Rosena (Schweinefus) Torkelson, was born Aug. 13, 1922 in rural Ossian, Dover Township, Fayette County, Iowa. She died Tuesday evening, Nov. 16, 1993 at St. Luke's Hospital at Cedar Rapids after a brief illness. She was 71.
She was baptized and confirmed at Stavanger Lutheran Church. On Jan. 19, she married Sylvan Lenth in Waterloo. Following their marriage, they farmed near Frankville. In 1965, they moved into Frankville. Margie worked at Iowa Turkey Products in Postville. Since her retirement, she continued to live in Frankville, where she enjoyed embroidery, card playing, fishing and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy; and two brothers, Walter Torkelson in 1991 and Arthur Torkelson in 1982.
Surviving include a daughter, Karan Andersen and husband Bill of Marion; two sons, Leslie and wife Maria of Las Vegas, Nev. and James and wife Marily of Frankville; and four sisters, Mrs. Edwin (Inez) Chensvold of West Union, Mrs. Victor (Evelyn) Staska, Mrs. Florence Schrandt and Mrs. Robert (Irene) Klisart of Ossian; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Torkelson of Monona.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jeff Andersen, Craig Andersen and wife Brenda of Cedar Rapids, Julie Andersen of West Des Moines, Arthur Lenth and wife Felicia of Ft. Bragg, N. C., Gina Lenth Carter and husband Bill of Las Vegas, Nev., Randy Lenth and wife Raquel of Postville, Rick Lenth of Niles, Ill., and Ryan Lenth of Castalia; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 19 at the Ossian Lutheran Church, the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial was in the Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery, Ossian. Casket bearers were Jeff Anderson, Craig Anderson, Julie Anderson, Arthur Lenth, Gina Lenth Carter, Randy Lenth, Rick Lenth, and Ryan Lenth. Arrangements were by Schmitz Funeral home, Ossian.
