MRS. WALTER S. (Esther Bertha Hangartner) VAN WEY

Funeral services for Esther Van Wey were held Thursday, December 28, 1989 at 11:00 a.m. in the Frankville Community Presbyterian Church at Frankville. The Rev. James Elvig officiated. Mrs. Leslie Laterman was the organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Frankville Cemetery.

Esther Bertha Van Wey, daughter of Conrad and Etta (Segrist) Hangartner, was born March 12, 1899 near Postville, Iowa. She passed away Sunday, December 24, 1989 in the Good Samaritan Center at Waukon, Iowa.

She attended the West Grove School near her home. On March 7, 1924 she was married to Walter S. Van Wey. To this union five children were born. They farmed in the Frankville area for several years. Esther had been employed by the Headington Grocery store and the Schroeder Grocery Store in Frankville for a short time. Esther lived her entire life in the village of Frankville and was very active in both the church and the community.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, who died January 4, 1961, a son, Howard, who died at the age of 13, four brothers, Fred, Lynn, James and Louis, and four sisters, Ruth Lily, Helen Bloxham, Hazel Mackey and Ann Wright.

Surviving are a son, Ronald and his wife, Wilma, of Yukon, Oklahoma, three daughters, Arliss and her husband, Roger Aschebrook, of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Marietta and her husband, Keith Muchow, of Forest City, Iowa and Janice and her husband, Kenneth Brainard, of Stockton, Illinois, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a brother, Laverne and his wife, Irene Hangartner, of Elkart, Indiana.

Esther was a member of the Frankville Community Presbyterian Church and its women's group and a member of the "Willing Workers" organization.

Casket bearers: Leland Walby, Lester Van Wey, Fred Broszeit, Jr., Leslie Laterman, Leonard Crawford and Harold Peck.
