Decorah- Jeff Gilson, 31, of Waterloo, formerly of Decorah, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, in his home after a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Decorah Lutheran Church, by the Rev. James Glesne. Burial: Hawkeye Cemetery, Hawkeye. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Decorah, and one hour before services Saturday at the church.

Survivors include his mother, Nancy of Decorah; his father and stepmother, Brad and Judy of Loveland, Colo.; a stepbrother, Matt; and a stepsister, Heather.

DECORAH - Jeff Gilson, 31, Waterloo, formerly of Decorah, died suddenly on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001 at his home of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Rev. James Glesne and Rev. Bryan Robertson officiating. Kathy Murray was organist. Hymn selections included "Jesus Loves Me", "Beautiful Savior", "My Hope is Built on Nothing Less" and "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel".
Interment was in the Hawkeye Cemetery at Hawkeye with Jonn DeVries, Roger Reed, Norman and Sandy Bohr and Steve and Brenda Finholt as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Joan Sloan, Gail Keefe, Donis Whalen, Cheryl Craft, Barbara Bryant, Barbara Buckton, Diane Anderson and Diane Thompson,
Jeffrey Scott Gilson was born Jan. 27, 1970 in Decorah, the son of Brad and Nancy (Buhr) Gilson. He attended Decorah Community Schools, graduating in 1988. In March 1988, Jeff was involved in an automobile accident. He had been rehabilitating from his injuries and living in Waterloo. He attended Hawkeye Tech and enjoyed rock and roll music, the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, going out to eat pizza, drinking Mountain Dew and being with friends and family.
Survivors include his mother, Nancy Gilson, Decorah; his father and wife, Brad and Judy Gilson, Loveland, CO; a stepbrother, Matt Schuette; a stepsister, Heather (Rick) Webb; maternal grandfather, Elmer Buhr, Hawkeye; paternal grandfather, Braaner (Marybeth) Gilson, Denver, CO; aunts, uncle and cousin.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandmother, Mildred Buhr and his paternal grandmother, Velda Gilson.
Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Decorah, was in charge of arrangements.
