Walter Edward Schutte

Walter Edward Schutte, son of August J. and Lena Dietrich Schutte, was born May 14, 1912, in Bloomfield Township near Castalia, Iowa. He passed away Friday, September 1, 1995, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville. He was 83 years old.

Walter was baptized in 1912 by Rev. R. Kuehne and confirmed in 1925 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia by Rev. A. A. Hoferer. He attended the Bloomfield No. 7 school near his home.

On December 27, 1934 Walter was married to Esther Shafer at Decorah, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born, Evelyn and Arlene.

The family farmed near Castalia for 78 years. Walter and Esther moved to Clermont in 1990. Walter was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and a member of the KEWS of Castalia. Walter became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in May of 1994. Throughout his life, Walter was a caring person who loved his wife, his daughters, the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and taking the family on spontaneous picnics.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Elmer and Helmuth Schutte and two sisters, Amanda Sander and Florence Miene.

Surviving are his wife, Esther of Clermont; two daughters, Evelyn and her husband, Orlan Tague of Green Bay, Wis. and Arlene and her husband, Sylvan Taylor of Clermont; five grandchildren, Tony Tague and his wife, Judy, Tracy and her husband, Tim Whitfield, Tom Tague and his special friend, Robin Kueger, Rick Taylor and his wife, Victoria, and Lori and her husband Jeff Lehmann; seven great grandchildren, Jeromie Frost, Jessica Frost, Heather Tague, Jason Tague, Shaun Lehmann, Sheena Lehmann and Shantel Lehmann, and two sisters, Mrs. Marie Miene of Monona, and his twin sister, Mrs. Velma Block of Muskego, Wis.

Funeral services for Walter Schutte were held Tuesday, September 5, 1995 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Rev. Charles W. Miller officiated. Kenneth Timmerman sang a solo, accompanied by Joann Martins, organist. Casket bearers were Tony Tague, Tracy Whitfield, Tom Tague, Jeff Lehmann, Lori Lehmann, Rick Taylor, Judy Tague, Victoria Taylor and Robin Krueger. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville cemetery.
