RITES HELD FOR FRED H. KOENIG

Fred Henry Koenig, the son of William and Charlotte Meyer Koenig, was born on May 8, 1886 at Castalia. He was baptized into the Christian faith on June 9, 1886 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, and confirmed April 8, 1900. He attended Bloomfield No. 3, Oak Hill School near Castalia.

On January 24, 1917, he was united in marriage with Alma Schlie at St. Paul's Lutheran Parsonage in Postville, by Rev. E. Schmidt. After their marriage they farmed near Castalia until his retirement in 1952. He lived his entire life on the same farm.

He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, and a former member of the church council.

He passed away at the Postville Community Memorial Hospital on January 10, 1968, at the age of 81 years and eight months.

Surviving besides his wife are six sons: Harlan of Frankville, Leonard of Postville, Verne of Decorah, Milton of Castalia, Loren of Castalia and Earl of Frankville; 27 grandchildren; four great grandchildren and one brother, William of Castalia.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Louis, and five sisters: Mrs. Charlie (Louise) Kaiser, Mrs. Christ (Minnie) Poesch, Mrs. George (Mary) Schroeder, Mrs. Fred (Rosina) Ruckdaschel, Mrs. Reuben (Lena) Christofferson, a twin sister Emma, who died in infancy, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 13, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1:30 p.m., the Rev. Richard B. Housman in charge. Burial was in Postville cemetery.

Fred Henry Koenig, a retired Castalia farmer, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, in the hospital at Postville. He was 81 years old.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon by the Rev. Richard B. Housman in St. Paul's Lutheran church at Postville. Organist was Mrs. Bernald Martins, who accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Kenneth Timmerman.

Burial was in the Postville cemetery with the following men serving as pallbearers: Donald Koenig and Duane Koenig of Wayne, Neb., Steven Koenig of Frankville, Robert Koenig of Mason City, Gary Koenig of Ames and Roger Koenig.

Fred Henry Koenig was born May 8, 1886, at Castalia, a son of the late William and Charlotte Meyer Koenig. He obtained an education by attending the Bloomfield No. 3 Oak Hill school near Castalia.

On Jan. 24, 1917, Mr. Koenig and Miss Alma Schlie were married in the Lutheran parsonage at Postville. After their marriage, they lived on a farm near Castalia until their retirement in 1952.

Six children were born to their union, all of who survive. They are Verne of Decorah, Harlan and Earl of Frankville, Leonard of Postville and Milton and Loren of Castalia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Louis, Mrs. Charles Kaiser, Mrs. Christ Poesch, Mrs. George Schroeder, Mrs. Fred Ruckdaschel, Mrs. Reuben Christofferson and a twin sister, Emma, who died in infancy.
