Decorah- Norman H. Koester, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, in the Oneota Riverview Care Facility following a lengthy illness. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, First Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Steve Jacobson. Burial: Burr Oak Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Schluter-Balik Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Survivors include a son, Ron of Decorah; a daughter, Janice Christians of Belmond; and two sisters, Rose Decker of Elma and Lillian Farrell of La Crosse, Wis.

Norman H. Koester, 83, of Decorah, died Thursday, January 3, 2002 at the Oneota Riverview Care Facility following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Steven Jacobsen officiating.
Organist was Rev. Marion Miller.
Casketbearers were David Leith, Jay Koester, Derek Leith, Cory Koester, Elmer Wolfgram, Kevin Gilbertson, Deborah Hjelmeland and Marc Rosendahl.
Honorary Casketbearers were Lucille Ramlo, Ivva Sampson and Amy and Melvin Engelhardt.
Interment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.
Norman Herman Marion Koester was born Dec. 27, 1918, the son of John and Mary (Nottnagel) Koester in Fayette County,.
He was baptized Jan. 12, 1919 and confirmed April 9, 1933 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Eldorado, Iowa.
Norman Koester married Agnes Lundtvedt Aug. 20, 1941 at the Pontoppidan Church, rural Decorah.
They farmed in the Burr Oak area until March of 1976, when they moved to Decorah.
Norman Koester worked at Midland and Anundsen Publishing Company until he retired.
He moved to the Oneota Care Facility on March 31, 2000, and enjoyed playing cards on Wednesdays at the care facility.
Survivors include his son, Ron (Sandra) Koester of Decorah and one daughter, Janice Christians of Belmond, Iowa; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two sisters: Rose Decker of Elma, Iowa and Lillian Farrell of La Crosse, Wis.
Norman Herman Marion Koester was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Agnes Koester on August 8, 1996.

Funeral services for Norman Koester of Decorah were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5 at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Steve Jacobsen officiating. Interment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Schluter Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

He is survived by one son: Ron of Decorah; one daughter: Janice Christians of Belmond; four grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and two sisters: Rose Decker of Elma and Lillian Farrell of LaCrosse, WI.
