Betty J. Fox, age 89 of Decorah, Iowa, died on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 6 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah, with the Rev. John Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Canoe Methodist Cemetery in rural Decorah.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, September 5 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m., one hour before the service, at First United Methodist Church.
Betty Jean Fox was born December 13, 1924 on a farm near Mabel, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Mabel (Erickson) Franklin. She grew up in Prosper, Minnesota, attended grade school in the Prosper School, at the intersection of Highways 52 and 44 near Prosper. She then attended Canton, Minnesota High School and graduated with the class of 1942. She then worked at the family tavern/store in Prosper until her marriage.
She was united in marriage to Conrad L. Fox on November 29, 1945 at Lanesboro United Methodist Church in Lanesboro, Minnesota. This union was blessed with four sons: James, Gerald, Gary and Jay.
Betty worked at Reardon’s Produce in Decorah, and then cleaned houses in Decorah with Vivian Broghammer for many years. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church. She and Conrad liked to dance, especially polkas, and she really enjoyed her family reunions in the state of Minnesota. She enjoyed everything about the state of Minnesota. They liked to travel and she also enjoyed going out for a drive to see the countryside. Betty also liked to walk around town. She loved her family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Conrad on August 23, 2009; three sons; James, Gary and Jay; and by two brothers; Lee and Donnie Franklin.
Betty is survived by one son, Jerry (Trudy) Fox of Stillwater, MN; two grandchildren: Heidi (Joe) Thompson of Stillwater, MN and Gretchen (Corbin) Schempp of Decorah; three great-grandchildren: Stone Thompson of Hollywood, CA, Ivy Thompson and Eve Thompson of Stillwater, MN; and by two special nieces: Janis (Sam) McCabe of Colona, IL and Nancy (Gary) Snitker of Cody, WY.
