Edward Ondrashek, age 86, of Spillville died Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA with Rev Donald Hawes presiding, burial will be in the church cemetery
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the Balik Funeral Home in Spillville with a rosary at 4:00 pm there will also be visitation after 10:00 at the funeral home Monday morning.
Edward William Ondrashek was born on November 12, 1927, in rural Fort Atkinson, IA, the son of William and Stella (Pavlovec) Ondrashek. Ed attended country school. He was inducted into the US Army on April 12, 1946 and received his basic training at North Camp Polk Louisiana he then attended General Hospital Training in Denver CO. and Surgical Technician training at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. then was transferred to Fort Custer, Michigan, Hospital and served until August 1947. Ed was united in marriage to Anna Hageman on May 24, 1949, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, IA. Together they farmed southwest of Spillville until 1975, when they moved to Fort Atkinson. In 1987, they bought their home in Spillville, IA and moved there. They enjoyed driving out in the country to view the crops, playing cards and traveling. He also enjoyed listening and dancing to old time music. Ed was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Tri-County American Legion #605 in Protivin, IA. and the Knights of Columbus in Protivin, IA.
Edward is survived by one daughter: Betty (Nicholas) Stanley, Tempe, AZ. Two sons: William “Bill” (Tammy Mahr) Ondrashek, Protivin, IA, and Dave (Sue) Ondrashek, Ft. Atkinson, IA. Eleven grandchildren: Bill (Melanie) Ondrashek Jr., Michelle Sutch, Jon (Cori) Ondrashek, Jennifer Ondrashek, Heather (Brian) Heying-Hunt, Adam Heying, Peter Heying, Christa (Joe) Taylor, Brian (Nicole) Ondrashek, Lori (Desmond) Denton and Mark (Andrea) Ondrashek. Nineteen great-grandchildren: Tyler Kobliska, Catlin Ondrashek, Kyan Sutch, Kierysten Sutch, Hanna Hunt, Joseph Ondrashek, Saundra Ondrashek, Maysa Ondrashek, Tracy, Tiffany, Felicity, Zach and Kayley Taylor, Madisen, Dayten, Annisten and Lauren Ondrashek, Tommy and Michala Denton. Five great-great grandchildren: Ella, Claire and Carver Leistikow and KingSton and Tiarra Taylor. One sister: Dorothy Neuzil, Spillville, IA. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Paul (Colleen) Hageman, Decorah, IA., Catherine Ott, Ossian, IA; Rose (Linus) Tupy, Fort Atkinson, IA, Martha (Ed) Mikota, Ossian, IA, Lucy Hageman, Ossian, IA, Gertrude Hageman, Calmar, IA, Nancy Ondrashek, Fort Atkinson, IA, Therese Koudelka’s children: Anna (Darrin) Schmauss, Jeff (Jenny) Koudelka and Angie (Kevin Depuy) Koudelka and their children.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife: Anna. One daughter: Diane Ondrashek. One son: Edward Ondrashek, Jr., both in infancy. One great great grandchild: Michael Joseph Leistikow. Parents: William and Stella (Pavlovec) Ondrashek. Brother: Donald Ondrashek. Sisters: Agnes (Jerome) Shindelar, Adeline (Art) Mihm. Brothers-in-law: Arnold Hageman, Conrad Hageman, Leo Ott, and August Neuzil. Friend: Therese Koudelka.
