Carl A. O’Kada, age 93, of Cresco, Iowa passed away Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Patty Elwood Center in Cresco.

A graveside service with military rites will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Ridgeway Cemetery in Ridgeway, Iowa. A luncheon will take place following the graveside service, in Cresco, Iowa at the Legion Hall across from the courthouse.

Carl Alburton O’Kada was born July 24, 1920 to Henry Terronobe and Violet Betsy (Betts) O’Kada in Nora Springs, Iowa. In 1938, Carl graduated from Cresco High School and moved to California. After high school, he joined the army and serviced in WWII. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. On October 10, 1959, Carl was united in marriage to Georgia Anna Stovall in Las Vegas, NV. Carl drove truck for Auto Fast Freight in Southern CA and later drove for Wisconsin Dairies after he and his family moved back to Chester, Iowa in 1979. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. When Carl wasn’t driving truck, he loved to fish, camp, work on crossword puzzles, tinker in his garage, drive school bus, and watch football and NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt. Carl will be remembered for his love to talk, his homemade vegetable stew, and telling of stories.

Carl is survived by his children, Brenda May of Corning, CA, Ida (James) Hilo of Baldwin Park, CA, Nancy (Dale) Waters of Victorville, CA, Penny Bryan of San Bernardino, CA, Rocky (Karen) Stovall of Salem, IL, Linda (Richard) Grassinger of Fontana, CA, Janice (Richard) Lacey of Apple Valley, CA, and Linda (Gordon) Dornink of Lime Springs, IA; son-in-law, Steve Hastings of Apple Valley, CA; 36 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and siblings, Glen O’Kada of Schley, IA, June O’Kada of Madison, WI, and Ida (Peter) Krueger of Saratoga, IA.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Violet, wife, Georgia, daughters, Carolyn Williams and Laura Hastings, daughter-in-law, Susie Stovall, grandsons, Carl Stovall and Richard Grassinger Jr., and siblings, Martin O’Kada, Lillian O’Kada, Clara Jane Morris, and Kenny O’Kada.
