Lillian H. Erickson, age 87 of Decorah, IA and formerly of Waterloo, IA, died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at her home in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo with Rev. Jim Knudson officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Thursday after 10:00 a.m., one hour before the service, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Lillian Harriet (Henry) Erickson was born on October 31, 1926 to Herman Walter and Minnie Ottilia (Johnson) Henry in New Market Township, rural Lakeville, MN. She graduated from Lakeville High School with the Class of 1945.

Lillian was united in marriage with Richard J. Erickson on July 19, 1947 at Christiana Lutheran Church in New Market Township, MN. Their union was blessed with three daughters: Gail, Karen and Julie.

Lillian, Richard and their family lived in Waterloo, IA. She worked as a Teacher’s Associate in the Waterloo School System for many years. She was a long time and active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Lillian moved to Decorah, IA in 2004 and then became a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She loved to cook and bake, liked to read, and especially liked to watch the Chicago Cubs. The high point of her summers was her family’s vacation at the lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard J. Erickson on July 7, 1987; five sisters; Myrtle Sorenson, Hazel Tonsager, Verna Blesener, Mabel Lovejoy Peters and Ida Madson; and by two brothers, Wallace Henry and Robert Henry.

Lillian is survived by one brother, Lester Henry of Lakeville, MN; her three daughters: Gail (Jim) Howatt of Decorah, Karen (Leonard) Thielbar of Lonsdale, MN and Julie (Andy) Wyckoff of Decorah; seven grandchildren: Gene (Brenda) Thielbar, Andrea (Mark) Zellner, Rich (Amber) Thielbar, Matt Thielbar, Theresa (Mark) Ulmer, Thomas Wyckoff and Kelsey Wyckoff; nine great-grandchildren: Alex Ulmer, Miles Ulmer, Eric, Henry and Grant Thielbar, Alyssa Zellner, Karisa Johnson, Troy and Tori Anderson; one great-great granddaughter, Morgan Blanch.
