Francis Hageman, age 92, of Calmar, IA, died on Monday, July 14, 2014, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2014, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville Street, Calmar, IA, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the Schluter- Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, 202 South Washington Street, Calmar, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Thursday morning. There will be a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Francis John Hageman was born on January 22, 1922, the son of August and Theresa (Schmitt) Hageman, just north of Festina where his love of farming began. He graduated from 8th grade at Festina Grade School. On June 25, 1946 Francis married Anna Brincks at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar and to this union three children were born Norma, Lynn and Laura. They farmed north of Calmar until 1980 and then moved into his parent’s home in Calmar. He continued to help his son Lynn on the family farm for several years. He and Anna enjoyed dancing, traveling, 4th of July parties and card club with a wonderful group of friends. He had a spontaneous sense of humor which was greatly loved by his children and grandchildren. He had a strong Catholic faith and was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. Francis was a true farmer at heart and had a strong love for the land and the outdoors.

Francis is survived by his wife of 68 years: Anna Hageman, Calmar, IA. Son: Lynn (Julie) Hageman, Calmar, IA. Two Daughters: Norma (Alan) Freidhof, West Union, IA. Laura (Randy) Kuennen, Ft. Atkinson, IA; Thirteen grandchildren: Annette (Arlen) Kriener, Scott (Kelley) Mikesh, Heather (Blake) Gamm, Malissa (special friend Scott) Freidhof, Ryan (Beth) Hageman, Aaron Hageman, Breann Hageman, Carol (Mike) Gaul, Bill (Katie) Kuennen, Sue (Paul) Rieland, Bob Kuennen, Kathy Kuennen, and Jenny Kuennen. Thirteen great – grandchildren:Bradley, Marcus, Jordan and Mitchell Kriener; Josie Mikesh; Madison, Noah and Mason Gaul; Colin & Claire Kuennen; Patrick Rieland; Alex Hageman and Trent Gamm, with another on the way. His siblings: Eugene Hageman, Decorah, IA; Delbert Hageman Decorah, IA; Robert (Joann) Hageman, Decorah, IA, Marie Brincks, Ossian, IA and Helen Dietzenbach, Ossian, IA. Sisters-in-law: Dolores Hageman, Cresco, IA, Joyce Hageman, Ossian, IA, along with many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents: August Hageman on Dec. 5, 1972 and Theresa (Schmitt) Hageman on Jan. 26, 1992, Mother and Father–in-law: Herman (Pauline Weber) Brincks, brothers: August Hageman Jr., Louis Hageman, Leonard Hageman and Cornelius (in infancy). Brothers and sister-in-law: Frances Hageman, Francis Dietzenbach, Patricia Hageman, Clarence Brincks, Ray (Hildegard) Brincks, Rose (Laverne) Meyer, Mary (Herman) Bullerman, Ralph (Olivia) Holthaus, Theresa (Louis) Bullerman.
