Marilyn Jean Schnekloth Green, 64, of Ossian, Iowa passed away June 6, 2014 at her home in Ossian, Iowa, after a seven-year battle with ovarian cancer. Marilyn was born in Davenport, Iowa to Walter and Helen Schnekloth on September 10, 1949. She was a 1967 graduate of North Scott High School. She earned a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville and a Masters degree from University of Northern Iowa. Marilyn taught elementary education for thirty-five years including twenty-nine years of teaching at South Winneshiek, Ossian.
Marilyn and Bill married June 19, 1971. They would have celebrated forty-three years of marriage. Marilyn’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She savored the many memories made with her grandchildren. She was a much loved and loyal daughter, friend, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, sister-in- law and aunt; she will always be remembered for her hospitality, generosity, humor and radiant smile. She was a woman of faith.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Bill Green of Ossian; her son, Tim (Kathy) of Ossian; her daughter, Beth (Jason) Barclay, of Rochester, Minnesota; her five grandchildren, Theo and Myles Green and Owen, Hudson and Harper Barclay; her sister, Susan (Kevin) Longcor of Rockford; her brothers, Ralph (Pam) Schnekloth of Eldridge and Les (Lisa) Schnekloth of Clarence; her mother-in-law, Phyllis Green of Decorah; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Chris Green of Long Grove, Fred and Robyn Green of Edina, Minnesota, Joe and Trina Green of Lena, Illinois and Louis and Pat Beck of Buckingham and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Helen Schnekloth; her father-in-law, Ted Green; her granddaughter, Isabel Green; her nephew, Joe Green and her niece, Leah Schnekloth.
The family thanks those who wish to honor Marilyn’s life with memorials to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, Ossian Lutheran Church, Camp Courageous of Monticello, and Ronald McDonald House of Rochester, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 12 from 4-8 p.m. at the Ossian Lutheran Church, 305 Jessie Street, Ossian, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Ossian Lutheran Church, Ossian, Iowa with Rev. Dave Lenth as the Officiant.
The family thanks Dr. Prema Peethambaram, Mayo Clinic Oncology and Winneshiek County Hospice for their support.
