Einar Thompson, 89, of Spillville, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating.
Organist was Jeanette Dietzenbach, and hymn selections included "Lift High The Cross," "Blest Are They" and "America The Beautiful."
Soloist Dan Silhacek sang "Holy Mother Mary" and "Going Home," and the trio of Dan Silhacek, Cheryl Novak and Dave Ludwig sang "Travellers."
Casketbearers were Noel Thompson, Tim Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Ann Fjelstul, Scott Thompson and Bruce Thompson.
Honorary Casketbearers were Faye Hill Thompson, Laurie Uhlenhake Thompson, Shawn Wyant and Scott Fjelstul.
Burial was in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, with full military honors by American Legion Post No. 467 of Spillville.
Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah handled arrangements.
Einar Jerome Thompson, the son of Theodore and Emma (Albertson) Thompson, was born Jan. 29, 1913 at their home in rural Spillville.
He was baptized and confirmed at Lincoln Lutheran Church in rural Ridgeway, and attended Spillville Public School, graduating from the eighth grade.
Einar Thompson was called to serve in the United States Army in March of 1942, spending two yeas overseas in the European Theater.
He was honorably discharged in Feb. 1946.
Upon returning home to Spillville, he began farming.
Einar Thompson was married to Doris Schmitt Nov. 28, 1953 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church by Rev. John Chihak.
To this union six children were born: Noel, Tim, Kevin, Ann, Scott and Bruce.
Einar and Doris Thompson farmed until 1981, when they retired and moved into Spillville.
He was a member of the Holy Name at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, the American Legion and former member of the V.F.W.
Einar Thompson had been a resident of the Aase Haugen Home since May 18, 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Thompson; six children: Noel (Faye) Thompson of Ellsworth, Iowa; Tim (Laurie) Thompson of Singapore; Kevin Thompson and Shawn Wyant of Cassopolis, Mich.; Ann (Scott) Fjelstul of Decorah; Scott Thompson of Longmont, Colo.; Bruce Thompson of San Francisco, Calif.; three grandchildren and two sisters, Mildred Luzum of Calmar and Thelma Brekke of West Union.
Einar Jerome Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Emma Thompson; two brothers, John and Oliver Thompson and three sisters, Ethel Anderson, Edith Wangsness and Angie Junko.
