Sophia Hill was born in Whitlow Co., Ireland, July 29, 1833, and died Oct. 3, 1910, at the age of 77 years, 20 months and 4 days. She was married to George Waters in Whitlow county, Ireland, on August 11, 1853, and to their union ten children were born, five with the husband have preceded her. Five sons, Robert of Ludlow, George and John of Postville, Thomas of Ludlow and Edward of Postville with nine grandchildren remain to cherish her memory. Since the death of her husband 23 years ago she has made her home with her son Tom. Shortly after her marriage she with her husband came to America and settled in Pennsylvania, where they lived five years, removing April 28, 1858, to Allamakee county, Iowa. In her early youth she was baptized and joined the Episcopal church in Ireland, and was for seven years after coming here a member of the same church and remained a faithful member to her death. A long life well spent in the service of her Master and blessed are the children and grandchildren who have known the influence of such a life. The funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Van Nice of Waukon, assisted by Rev. Ziegler, with interment in the village cemetery by the side of her husband. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she is buried in the Frankville Cemetery.
