Robert Waters was born at Arklow, Wicklow County, Ireland, May 15, 1821. He emigrated to America in 1849 and resided in Pennsylvania for a short time. In October, 1853, he was married to Sarah McCann, and in January, 1856, he came to Dubuque, Iowa. On February 2, 1856, he settled on the farm on which he has since resided, a period of 55 years. To them were born five children, all of whom survive him, as follows: Elizabeth Breese of Talent, Ore., Mary Ella Livengood of Myron, Iowa, George Waters of McIntyre, Iowa, Robert Herbert Waters of Frankville and Rosetta Waters-Merrick of Merced, Cal. On June 24, 1894, his wife passed to the better land. But four youngest children were at his bedside during his last illness and gazed with loving hearts as his spirit passed peacefully and quietly to its last rest on January 24, 1911. In his early youth he joined the Episcopal church but in the 60’s he untied with the Presbyterian church of Frankville, of which he has been a consistent member and attendant until his death. The first day of the New Year, 1911, was the last time he attended services in the church he dearly loved. His has been a long life well spent in the service of his Master. “Uncle Robert,” as he was known to all, will be greatly missed by old and young alike for his kindly words and deeds. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Thursday at 11 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Ziegler, and he was laid away by the side of his wife in the village cemetery. The casket was covered with beautiful flowers placed there by loving hands, and a large concourse of relatives and friends followed him to his last resting place.

Submitter's Note: Robert Waters was the brother of Samuel Waters and the husband of Sarah McCann
