Ardell Syverson, age 89, of Decorah, Iowa, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, April 11, 2014.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Springfield Lutheran Church, 1969 Middle Calmar Road, Decorah, with Rev. Phillip Olson officiating. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 14, 2014 at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10:00 Tuesday at the church.

Ardell Eugene Syverson was born on March 29, 1925 to Arthur and Alice (Estrem) Syverson on the family farm south of Decorah, IA. Ardell was baptized and confirmed at Springfield Lutheran Church. He attended Country School and graduated from Decorah High School in 1944. Ardell married Elaine Lee on June 19, 1946 at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church rural Decorah, IA. Together they farmed until 1982 when they moved to Decorah. He worked for the Decorah Veterinary Clinic and many area farmers. Ardell was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, enjoyed going to local sporting events, polka music, socializing with family or friends, and was always good for a story or joke. Most of all he enjoyed doing things with the family.

Ardell is survived by his wife: Elaine, Decorah, IA. One son: Darryl (Shelly) Syverson, Strawberry Point, IA. Three daughters: Carryl Magnuson, Richfield, MN, Jackie Syverson and Judy Syverson both of Decorah, IA Six grandchildren: Tara (JT) Wyckoff, Amy (Rob) Lengeling, Tracy (Tony) Nicholls, Brad Syverson, Travis (Nock Baccam) Syverson and Chad (Erin Kortkamp) McDermott. Twelve great grandchildren: Mia and Ian McDermott, Liam and Gage Holmberg, Ada and Meyer Lengeling, Zoe Nicholls and Steven, Tyler, Clair and Landyn Baccam. Brother: Elwood (Bonnie) Syverson, Decorah, IA Sisters-in-law: Frances “Franny” Syverson, Hazel Wangsness and Eloise Bakke all of Decorah. And many nieces and nephews.

Ardell was preceded in death by twin sons: Ronald and Donald Syverson in infancy, his parents: Arthur and Alice (Estrem) Syverson. Brother: LaVerne Syverson. Great grandson: Max Holmberg. Father and Mother-in-law: John and Ida Lee. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Rev. Milo (Agnes) Lee, Vernon (Marcie) Lee, Lloyd (Lilly) Brown, Hilding (Ruth) Johansen, Grace (Roger Dyrland/ Jerry Finnegan), Andrew Bakke and Elmer Wangsness

In Lieu of flowers the family would like memorials sent to the Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice at 901 Montgomery Decorah Iowa 52101
