Darlene Sivesind, 91, of Waukon, died Friday, March 21, 2014, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were Monday, March 24, at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, with Pastor Stacey Nalean-Carlson officiating. Burial was at Glenwood East Cemetery, rural Decorah. Friends called from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. Casketbearers were Jim Nagel, Scott Livingston, Ben Glantz, John Kerndt, Jr., Tom Kerndt and Craig Kerndt. Darlene Sivesind was born July 21, 1922, in Decorah, the daughter of Nels and Stella (Tollefson) Severson. She was baptized at her parents’ home and confirmed at Union Prairie Church, both in Winneshiek County. Darlene attended Decorah public schools and then went to work at the Decorah radio plant and Wheatman Cleaners. She married Clarence Norman Sivesind Dec. 15, 1946, at Decorah Lutheran Church. For 23 years, the couple farmed together on their farm in Glenwood Township. After they retired from farming, Darlene worked at Northern Engraving in Waukon for 17 years. In 2005, Darlene moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, where she currently was residing, and she really enjoyed participating in the activities there. She was very involved Dorcas Women’s Group at Decorah Lutheran Church; she also was an active member of Glenwood Lutheran Church, GLCW and the Joy of Hope circle. Darlene also was a 4-H leader. She loved to bake, especially cakes for special events and just to give to family and friends. Darlene loved to embroider, and made many sets of pillowcases and dishtowels. She also really enjoyed mowing the lawn. Mostly, she loved hosting family events with her kids, grandkids, and extended family.
Darlene is survived by her three children: Linda (Duane) Flatland of Waukon, Norman (Steven Van Slooten) Sivesind of Minneapolis, Minn. and Robert Sivesind of Waukon; five grandchildren: Connie (Jim) Nagel, Cheryl (Scott) Livingston, Carrie (Ben) Glantz, Bryce Sivesind and Brianne Sivesind; five great-grandchildren: Marissa and Miranda Nagel, Ella and Makenzie Livingston and Samuel Glantz; two sisters, Lorna (John) Kerndt and Mae Jean Bakke, both of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence, who died in 1992; father- and mother-in-law Emil and Minnie Sivesind; twin brother, Darwin Severson; brother, Loren Severson, in infancy; brothers-in-law: Joseph Bakke, Olaf (Hazel) Sivesind, Milford (Elizabeth) Sivesind, William (Hazel) Sivesind and Ernest (Janice) Sivesind; sister-in-law, Clarice Sivesind, in infancy; and great-grandson, Ethan Livingston.
