Wangsness, David Alan 1939 - 2014

David Alan Wangsness, 75, of Woodbury, Minn., died of a heart attack Feb. 11, 2014. Funeral services were Feb. 21, at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Woodbury, Minn. Casket bearers were Michael Wangsness, Matthew Wangsness, Blake Wangsness, Parker Willis, Jim Weigle, Marc Weigle and Tom Pietz.

David was born Jan. 24, 1939, in Decorah, the son of Theodore (Ted) and Olga Wangsness. He was baptized at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1957 and Luther College in 1961, with a major in chemistry. After receiving his master's degree in chemistry from the University of North Dakota, he was employed by 3M until he retired in 1999. He traveled the world for 3M while working in the adhesive division. Sports and music were his interests in high school, at Luther College and throughout his life. He participated in basketball, football, track and baseball. He sang solos for many weddings and sang on a Saturday afternoon radio program during college days. David married Rita Rogers Sept. 5, 1970. Rita died April 17, 2007.

David is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law: Michael (Erin) Wangsness, Woodbury, Minn. and Matthew Wangsness (MaKenzie), Farmington, Minn.; grandchildren: Carley Willis, Parker Willis, Blake Wangsness, Woodbury, Minn. and expected baby Wangsness, Farmington, Minn.; mother, Olga Wangsness, Decorah; sister, Donna (Jim) Weigle, Golden Valley, Minn.; niece Kristi (Tom) Pietz, Delafield, Wis.; nephew, Marc (Kirsten) Weigle, St. Michael, Minn.; four great-nieces: Nora, Julia, Sally and Ann; four great-nephews; Timothy, Daniel, Theodore (Ted) and Samuel; and his companion schnauzer, Lola.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita, and his father, Theodore (Ted) Herman
