Funeral services for Arlene Bigalk, 45, of Harmony, Minn., were conducted April 24 at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony.
Mrs. Bigalk died April 20 at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. She had suffered from leukemia since September, 1986.
The Rev. Rolf Nestingen officiated at the 11:30 a.m. funeral service. Pallbearers were Robert Sersland, David Sersland, Larry Brown, Kenneth Bigalk, Arnold Bigalk and Walter Bigalk. Burial was at the Greenfied Cemetery.
Arlene Erickson was born Nov. 18, 1941, at Decorah, the daughter of Norman and Stella (Brown) Erickson. She was baptized in her faith Dec. 14, 1941, and was confirmed May 27, 1956. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1959 and attended Allen Memorial School of Nursing in Waterloo, gaining a license as an LPN.
She married Earl Bigalk Sept. 16, 1961, at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah.
The couple operated the Harmony Recreation Center for 20 years. Since 1984, she had owned and operated Bigalk's Burger Barn.
Mrs. Bigalk was a member of the Greenfield Lutheran Church, ALCW and the Harmony Civic and Commerce. She sponsored and participated in a bowling league and also sponsored a ladies' softball team. She was active in 4-H and was a past club leader.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband, Earl, of Harmony; sons Kevin and Keith of Austin, Minn., and Kendall, Karl and Kory of Harmony; daughters Karolin and Karen of Harmony; her mother, Mrs. Stella Erickson of Decorah; and one sister, Mrs. Leland (Ruth) Johnson of Iola, Wis.
