Allyn Francis Mincks was born Nov. 29, 1953, in Decorah, to Allyn and Gladys (Cronin) Mincks. He grew up in Decorah, and joined the Navy to serve his country at age 17. During his service time, he was stationed in Hawaii and the Philippines, evacuating refugees from Vietnam and bringing them to the Philippines. He served six years, 1972-1978, before being honorably discharged. He married Gloria Querubin June 21, 1975, and they were married for 38 years. Together they had four children and raised them in Waterloo. He attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology for his diesel and auto mechanic degrees. He was an employee of Menards for 15 years, followed by working alongside his son at Cedar Valley Fire Auto Sprinklers. Together he and his wife owned Nana's Oriental Grocery Store in Waterloo for 17 years. In his spare time, he liked to fish, loved music and dance, "resting" his eyes and help others. He will be remembered for his gift of gab and being a jack-of-all-trades.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; mother, Gladys; four children: Eugene Mincks of Waterloo, Maria Mincks of Ariz., Angelina (Marvin) Hagen of Ariz., Christopher (Rebecca) Mincks of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; and nine brothers and sisters: Ellyn (James) Diederich, Mary (Steve) Holkesvik, Sandy (Steve) Reicks, Wendy (Larry, Sr.) Henry, Sherry Henry, Terry Tran, Brenda (Randy, Sr.) Henry, Joseph (Lynn Evans) Mincks and Robert Mincks.

He is preceded in death by his father, Allyn; and maternal and fraternal grandparents.
