Karen Ida Braden, 64, Mason City, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. A funeral mass for Karen is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Epiphany Parish's Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams, Mason City. Burial is in the Ames Municipal Cemetery, Mt. Calvary. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a parish rosary at 7:30 p.m. followed by a scriptural wake service at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City. Visitation continues one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church.

Karen Ida (Moellers) Braden was born Febr. 27, 1949, in Decorah, the daughter of Ireaneus and Catherine (Huinker) Moellers. Karen graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1967. After completing her high school education, Karen began working for George Laub as a legal secretary in Cresco. In 1970, she began working as a secretary for Beaty Real Estate and Insurance Company in Ames until 1979. She was united in marriage to John Braden, Jr. July 24, 1976, in Cresco, and to this union three children were born: Jennifer, Jeremy and Jonathon. In Oct. 1979, the family moved to Mason City, and in 1988, Karen began working in Agronomy for Land O' Lakes in Mason City until 2010. Karen enjoyed quilting, needlework, crafts and gardening, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren. Karen's volunteer interests were helping to coordinate and participate for 12 years in the RCIA program at Holy Family Catholic Church, Newman Catholic High School Booster Club. She completed her training in Lay Formation at Holy Family Catholic Church. Karen also enjoyed belonging to the Pom Pom Mommas cheerleading at Newman Catholic High School, and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, when they were winning.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, John Braden Jr. of Mason City; three children: Jennifer (James) Dunne of Ankeny, Jeremy (Carrie) Braden of Onawa and Jonathon (Krystal Overmyer) Braden of Columbia, S.C.; three grandchildren: Thomas and Andrew Dunne and one expected in January; her mother, Catherine Moellers of Cresco; brothers and sisters: Kenneth (Debbie) Moellers of Cresco, Jerry (Chris) Moellers of Ridgeway, Connie (Jim) Zahasky and Cindy (Neil) Grube of Cresco, Audrey (Mike) Nosbisch of Ridgeway, Janine (Bob) Sebastian of Preston, Minn., Mary (Mark) Reicks of Cresco and Kevin (Gayleen) Moellers of Ridgeway; many nieces, nephews and many extended family members and friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her father, Ireaneus Moellers.
