Ruth A. Blekeberg, age 98, of Decorah, IA, died Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Wellington Place in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 18, 2013 at Madison Lutheran Church in rural Ridgeway, with Rev. Jeff Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Monday, one hour before the service, at Madison Lutheran Church.

Ruth Arlene (Thompson) Blekeberg was born July 4, 1915 at home on the family farm in Madison Township, rural Ridgeway, Winneshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Ben N. and Ingeborg (Nesheim) Thompson. She was baptized August 1, 1915 at Ridgeway United Lutheran Church and confirmed there on December 8, 1929 by Rev. H.M. Normann. She attended rural schools in Madison Township.

Ruth was united in marriage to Oliver Blekeberg on August 14, 1932 at Decorah Lutheran Church Parsonage by Rev. O. Glesne. This union was blessed with two sons, Orrin Robert and Ronald Orville.

In Ruth’s younger years, she took pride in playing the violin in her church. After her marriage to Oliver, she was a homemaker and helped on the family farm in Madison Township. Later, she and Oliver moved into Decorah. While living in Decorah, Ruth was employed at Wapsie Produce and then Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital. Ruth continued her membership at Madison Lutheran Church. She moved into Wellington Place in Decorah in August 2004.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oliver on June 16, 1982; her two sons, Robert on July 4, 1933 and Ronald on February 18, 1985; seven brothers: Nels (Tilla), Sander (Ellen), Benjamin (Amanda), Albert (Leona), Otto (Ruby), Richard (Lillie Mae) and Oscar (Mary Ann); and four sisters: Ida (Axel) Delfs, Myrtle (Harold) Watson, Sandora in infancy and Leone (Tony) Alman.

Ruth is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank everyone at Wellington Place for the wonderful care that was given to Ruth and the friendship that was shared with her during the nine years she was a resident there. Also, thank you to WMC Hospice for their personal care.
