Nora Larson Moen was born in the family home in Allamakee County to Hans and Anna Marie (Skaim) Larson, on February 14, 1909. She was the youngest of seven children. Nora was baptized at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, IA. Nora received her 8th grade education in Allamakee County, at the West Ridge School, just west of Waukon, IA. Nora lived at home until she was 20 years old before she moved to Decorah. Nora married Gerald Moen on August 31, 1941, and was blessed with four step daughters: Hulda, Iverna, Gretchen and Mary Lou. Nora started her work at Aase Haugen in 1963 and worked there for 18 years until she retired in 1981. Nora worked hard; she cleaned homes on the side for many years, for Bill and Mary Ronan and at the Taylor home. She volunteered at Senior Citizen Meal Site as much as she could right up until her last few days. Nora was member of First Lutheran Church and Alta Circle in Decorah, IA, all her adult life. Nora participated for many years in Decorah Bank and Trust “Sunrise Club” activities. Nora was a very social person, she loved being with family and friends. This led to her love dancing, walking and playing cards, especially Euchre...with both Jokers, otherwise forget it! However if you named the place, she’d be there to play cards! Nora had some spunk indeed, with this energy she was a very organized, a perfectionist, hardworking, and yes, frugal with her money. It was amazing what she could accomplish. Her garden, yet small, produced much. Her meals were cooked to perfection for her family. And of course her pies... they were the best! Nora had a lifelong love for animals. The animals she cared for throughout her life were Bobby (cat), Mitzy (Chihuahua), Jackie (cat), held a very special place in her heart and life. They were her children!

Nora’s survivors include her step-daughter: Mary Lou (Harry) Lensch, Decorah, IA. Eight step-grandchildren: Steve (Kathy) Lensch, Bettendorf, IA; Tom (Deb) Lensch, Decorah, IA; Janet (Gary) Held, Chaska, MN; Julie (Jim) Rasmusson, LaCrosse, WI; Duane (Carol) Peterson, Champlin, MN; Diane Olson, Algonquin, IL; Susan (Rodney) Stelford, Republic, MO; and Cindy (Jeff) Jirak, Lawler, IA, along with nineteen great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren with one on the way.
