Linda Marie (Rundgren) Doyle was born October 23, 1944 in Rockford, Illinois. She was the oldest of four children of William and Antoinette (Campisi) Rundgren. Linda lived most of her life in the Rockford area. She attended Rockford West High School and married her sweetheart James Doyle in Rockford on February 9th, 1963. The couple recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with two children, Donald and Denise. Linda and Jim moved to rural Egan, Illinois in 1976, where they raised their children and lived for over 30 years, moving to Decorah, Iowa in 2009.
Linda worked in Seward, Illinois at Eickman’s Meat Processing followed by 25 years at Amerock Corporation, which later became Newell Industries. She retired from Newell in 2006 having moved from the factory floor to a purchasing position with their buying group. Linda was the second woman to hold that position at her company, something that was not common for a woman at that time, let alone a woman without a college degree. Linda enjoyed her job immensely and was very well respected by her colleagues and peers.
Linda’s greatest joy however, was her family and close friends, especially her grandchildren Brandon, Kalle and Keaton. She also loved her gardens and books and spending time with family and friends enjoying good meals, good conversations and lots of laughter.
Linda died Friday morning, October 25th, 2013 at her home in Decorah surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and by one brother, William P. Rundgren.
Linda is survived by her husband James; one son, Donald Doyle of Decorah; one daughter, Denise (Brian) Solberg of Decorah; three grandchildren, Brandon Doyle, Kalle and Keaton Solberg; one brother, James (Patricia McKinnon) Rundgren of Seattle, Washington; and one sister Lauretta (Michael) Smuck of Rockford, Illinois. Linda will also be missed by a large extended family of sister and brother in laws, nieces and nephews, and very special friends.
Linda’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice for their loving care and support of Linda and her family; especially Nicole, Jamie and Stacey.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial in Linda’s name be made to the Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice, 901 Montgomery Street, Decorah, Iowa 52101.
