Corrine Lensing, age 87, of Festina, Iowa, died on Monday September 23, 2013 at the Ossian Senior Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 27, 2013 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, IA, Monsignor Cletus Haws presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery,
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 at the Festina Parish Center on Thursday September 26 with a scripture service at 5:00 and a rosary at 7:00. There will also be visitation after 10:00 a.m., Friday at the Community Center.
Corrine Johanna Zweibohmer was born on March 27, 1926, in Ossian, Iowa, the daughter of John and Justina (Klemmer) Zweibohmer. She was the third of six children. She was baptized on March 28, 1926 by Msgr. M.J.Tiltgen; received First Holy Communion on May 28, 1933, and was confirmed on December 16, 1939 by the Most Rev FJL Beckman at St. Francis de Sales Church. She received her education at De Sales Central High School in Ossian. Prior to her marriage she worked in JC Penney stores in Waterloo and later in New Hampton. On November 27, 1946 she was united in marriage to Ralph T. Lensing at St. John Nepomucene Church in Fort Atkinson. To this union seven children were born. Following their marriage they lived in the Frances Elsbernd house in Festina, where she helped operate the telephone switch board. In 1957, Corrine and Ralph built and owned the Festina Cafe. For several years Corrine and her mother cooked there. After the sale of the cafe, she cooked in Calmar for over 25 years, until her retirement. Corrine was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and its rosary society. In early 2010 Corrine had to have part of her left leg removed because of a blood clot. Despite her disability, Corrine was able to recuperate and live at home, demonstrating her immense strength and independence. She entered the Ossian Senior Hospice in August, when her health began to decline. Corrine's family is especially thankful for the loving care that she received there. Corrine was a wonderful mother and took great pride in taking care of her family. She loved to read, play cards and go fishing. She enjoyed flowers, watching birds, and winning the game of scrabble against her sister, Marie. Corrine had a knack for writing poems and wrote a special one for each of her children on their fiftieth birthdays. Corrine especially loved cooking, however, her love and greatest joy was the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Corrine's survivors include her five children Two sons: John (Rose) Lensing, Bettendorf, IA. David (Diane) Lensing, Postville, IA. Three daughters: Bette (Paul) Schmitt, Fort Atkinson, IA, Pamela (Mike) Burke, DeWitt, IA, and Jeanne (Brian) Reed, Brownsville, MN. Seventeen grandchildren: Julie (Eric) Stephens, Chris (Heidi) Lensing, Kyle Picha, April (Dan) Novotny, Angela (Michael) Dark, Andrea Lensing, Amanda (Brent) Smith, Alissa (Travis) Schissel, Sarah (Erik) Pasker, Todd Schmitt, Megan (Jacob) Nelson, Melanie Burke, James Schutte, Joshua Schutte, Jennifer (Scott) Schutte-Petersen, Jacob Schutte and Jonathan Schutte. Ten great grandchildren: Justis Lensing, Cullen Lensing, Reese Dark, Landon Dark, Carter Smith, Laylah Schissel, Vienna Schissel, Owen Petersen, Nora Petersen and Lillian Novotny, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. One sister Marie Monroe of Ossian, IA. Two sisters-in-law: Eunice Zweibohmer, Ossian, IA and Pat Zweibohmer, Marion, IA.
Preceding her in death were her parents John on November 24, 1953 and Justina Zweibohmer on October 10,1994 ; her husband, Ralph Lensing on July 28, 2011; two sons: John, in infancy, on December 10, 1949 and Richard on November 13, 1970; one sister Marcelite (Claus) Hinders; brothers and sister–in-law: Arthur Zweibohmer, Norbert (Frances) Zweibohmer and Leonard Zweibohmer and Curtis Monroe.
