Eldie J. Peterson, age 74, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at home in Cresco, Iowa.According to her wishes, Eldie's body was gifted to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. A memorial service for Eldie will be held Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Prairie's Edge Nature Center. Refreshments will be served. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, IA, is in charge of arrangements. Eldie J. Flatland was born on September 14, 1938 to Albert and Norma (Engen) Flatland in Iowa City, Iowa. She attended elementary and high school in Canton, MN, graduating in 1956. On June 8, 1957, Eldie married Alton Peterson in Las Vegas, NV. After many years in the banking industry in Los Angeles and San Francisco area, Eldie and Alton moved to Paso Robles, CA. In Paso Robles Eldie worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant for a Homeowners Association. When she retired from her job as an Administrative Assistant, Eldie and Alton moved to Cresco, IA in 2004. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed getting together with friends and family to play cards or Farkel. Eldie was an excellent cook and was fond of helping organize the extended families annual 'Lefsa Bake.' Eldie was survived by her husband, Alton of Cresco, IA, sons, Kerry Peterson of Lexington, KY, Mark (Ronda) Peterson of Paso Robles, CA, and daughter, Julie Ringer of Cresco, IA, 5 grandchildren, sisters, Naomi Gossman of Cresco, IA, Bonnie Krogstad of Spring Grove, MN, Sue (Ed) Fontes of Cresco, IA, sisters-in-law, Beulah Shindelar of Spillville, IA, Lorraine Ellickson of Murrieta, CA, Wanda Flatland, brother-in-law, Robert (Diane) Peterson of Cedar Falls, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by, parents, parents-in-law, brothers, Kenny and Jesse, brothers-in-law, Herb Gossman, Blaine Roberts, Leonard Moudry, John Shindelar, and Merv Krogstad, sisters-in-law, Margaret (Drake) Flatland and Sylvia (Peterson) Roberts.
