Sarah Mincks

Sarah Mincks, age 16, of Decorah, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., from a brain tumor.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the Decorah Bank & Trust in her memory. It was Sarah Mincks’ wishes to be an organ and tissue donor.

Memorial services were Saturday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m., at Decorah Lutheran Church, Decorah with Rev. Bryan Robertson and Rev. Ole Winter officiating.

Kathy Murray was organist and soloist Emily Eide performed "I Can Only Imagine."

The Decorah Lutheran Praise Team performed "Cares Chorus," "Softy and Tenderly," "God Will Make a Way" and "On Eagle’s Wings."

Urn bearer was Tony Kocian.

Honorary Pallbearers were all of Sarah Mincks’ friends.

Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Decorah, handled arrangements.

Sarah Anne Mincks was born April 8, 1988, the daughter of Carol "Junior" and Kristi (Hotvedt) Mincks in Decorah.

She attended Decorah Community Schools and the Alternative School in Calmar.

She enjoyed hanging out with her friends, roller-skating, going to the races, dancing, cheerleading, listening to music and spending time with her friend, Chaquito.

Survivors include her daughter, Destinee Mincks and her special friend, Leonardo "Chaquito" Navaro, Postville; her mother: Kristi Mincks, Decorah and her father: Carol "Junior" Mincks, La Crosse, Wis.; one sister: Nicole Mincks, Decorah; three half-sisters: Mindy Fossum, Decorah; Heidi Osterhaus, Mabel, Minn., and Heather Hageman, Decorah; one half-brother: Christopher Mincks, Cresco; two special cousins: James Mincks, Elgin and Rashell Mincks, Cresco; maternal grandparents: Maynard and Rita Hotvedt, Decorah and paternal grandfather: Carol Mincks, Sr., Calmar, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sarah Mincks was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Doris Mincks and maternal great-grandparents, Adolph and Mabel Hotvedt
