Philip M. Hovey

Retired United States Army Staff Sgt. Philip M. Hovey, 61, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Monday, March 25, 1996, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center of congestive heart failure.

Graveside services with full military honors were conducted Friday, March 29, in the Post Cemetery at Fort Bragg, N.C. Arrangements were handled by Highland Funeral Service and Crematory.

Phil was born in Winneshiek County, the son of Philip and Hannah Hovey of Orleans Township. He graduated from Cresco High School and worked in Decorah before entering the military, in which he served for 20 years, including eight years in Germany and four in Viet Nam.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Hovey and Christina Simpson, and a granddaughter, Lisa Heintzelman, all of Fayetteville, N.C., three brothers, Harlan and Norman Hovey of Burr Oak, Maynard and Colleen Hovey of Cresco, and Ken and Roseann Hovey of Atkins; and two sister, Wilma and Galin Barth of Cedar Rapids, and Kathryn and Vernon Spilde of Decorah.

Phiip M. Hovey was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his grandparents.

Attending the funeral services from this area were Harlan and Norma Hovey, Vernon and Kay Spilde, Wilma Barth and Ken Hovey.
