Funeral Services are today for Hannah Hovey

Hannah A. Hovey, a life-long resident of Winneshiek County and Decorah, died Monday, March 9 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital at the age of 82.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hovey are today (Thursday, March 12) at 1:30 p.m. at Decorah Lutheran Church. Pastors Alden H. Hovda and John A. Pannkuk will conduct final rites. Burial will be in the Orleans Lutheran Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Gary Barth, Clinton Hovey, Randal Hovey, Richard Hovey, Donald Kleiboer and Craig Spilde. Mrs. Otto Ruen will play the organ, and the congregation will join in singing hymns. Funeral arrangements are being made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hovey, the former Hannah A. Hanson, was born Nov. 4, 1898 in Winneshiek County to Hans and Katrine (Langedahl) Hanson. She attended rural schools and Valders Business College and after graduation worked as a bookkeeper and taught school. She was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church and the ALCW.

She married Philip M. Hovey March 30, 1921 in Decorah. Her husband died in 1941.

She is survived by four sons and two daughters, Harlan Hovey of Burr Oak, Maynard Hovey, Cresco, Mrs. Gaylin (Wilma) Barth, Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Vernon (Kathryn) Spilde, Decorah, Philip Hovey, Fayetteville, N.C. and Kenneth Hovey of Atkins, Ia.

Other survivors are 24 grandchildren and 25 great granchildren.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Hovey is preceded in death by her parents, two infant daughters, six sisters and six brothers.
