Mother and Babe Both Pass Away Buried Together
The death of Mrs. Robert Hjelmeland of this city at the Decorah hospital Monday morning, June 26, at 1:30 o'clock, was the cause of much sorrow among her large circle of friends. She has been a sufferer from diabetes since she was 13 years old and was taken seriously ill last week and Saturday morning at four o'clock was removed to the Decorah hospital. A baby son was born to her at 10:10 o'clock Sunday morning, but the child only lived a short time after birth. During Sunday afternoon the mother rallied and hopes were entertained for her recovery, but she began to sink and failed to the end which came early Monday morning.
Marian Ruby Woldum was a daughter of Halvor H. and Melisa Vold Woldum and was born in Decorah Aug. 2, 1909, and grew to young womanhood here. She was a graduate of the Decorah high school and for several years past was an assistant in the office of the Decorah Produce Co. She was most highly esteemed by many friends, all of whom are grieved to hear of her passing.
She was united in marriage to Robert Hjelmeland in 1932, who survives her. She is also survived by her bereaved father, H. H. Woldum and sister Hazel of this city and brother Dr. Lester Woldum of the General hospital in Minneapolis, and deep sympathy is extended to them by many friends. Mrs. Hjelmeland's mother passed away three years ago.
The baby son was baptized before he passed away and was named David Robert. He will be buried with his mother. The funeral services will take place this Wednesday afernoon at 1:30 from the home on East Main street and at 2:00 o'clock from the First Lutheran church. Rev. T.A. Hoff will officiate and interment will be in the Lutheran cemetery.
