Postville Herald, Friday, 2 August 1918. In the Castalia column.

Alfe Suckow, the ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Suckow, was drowned Tuesday afternoon. He, with three other children, and two ladies, who were visiting at the George Schave home, went down to the creek near the Schave house. Alfe was in wading and suddenly disappeared in a deep hole. The men in the fields were hastily summoned and all efforts to locate the body were in vain until Dr. Butler arrived and he succeeded in getting him out, but the spark of life had fled. The funeral will be held in the Lutheran church tomorrow afternoon. The family have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow.

Note: The article gives his given name as Alfe, but a clear photo of his gravestone in Centennial/Greenwood cemetery on the IGPP shows Alfa C. H. Suckow 7-23-1908 / 7-30-1918.

Submitter is not related.
