Melvin Sorenson Funeral Services Held Tuesday
Melvin A. Sorenson of 907 River Street died June 1 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital at the age of 67. He was a life-long resident of the county and Decorah and had been employed in bridge construction until his retirement.
Pastor Paul H. Christenson conducted funeral services Tuesday, June 3 at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church where Mr. Sorenson was a member. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Gerald Tonne, Arlin Sorenson, Dale Sorenson, Walter Wood, Marvin Folstad and Cal Fagerlie. Mrs. William Kuhlman was organist and accompanied the congregation as they sang hymns. Arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.
Melvin A. Sorenson was born May 14, 1908 in Pleasant Township, the son of the late Bendick and Susan Sorenson. He attended rural schools and was married June 26, 1938 in ceremonies at the Glenwood Lutheran Church parsonage.
He is survived by his wife, the former Stella Moe; a son, Robert Sorenson of Decorah; a daughter, Miss Carol Sorenson of Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Scott and Karen Sorenson; six brothers, John and Oscar Sorenson of Decorah, Sylvester Sorenson of Preston, Minn., Walter Sorenson of Knoxville, Ia., Ervin Sorenson of Preston, Minn., and Raymond Sorenson of Decorah, and two sisters, Mrs. Edwin Vick of Decorah and Mrs. Leo Tonne of Waterville, Minn.
His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
