The remains of Mrs. Eliza Stone were brought last Saturday to Decorah from St. Paul for burial beside those of her husband and two children. Mrs. Stone, whose maiden name was Eliza Carter, was born in Greene Co., N. Y., in 1815, and died at her home in St. Paul February 20. Married to Luther G Stone in 1840, they came to Decorah, in 1862, after a short residence in Wisconsin. Here her husband died in 1866. In 1882 she removed to St. Paul, where she has since resided. During these prolonged years her home was one of the center points of the Decorah colony which has gathered in St. Paul, and the affection and esteem she won while living in this city had been retained by many of our old residents.
Mrs. Stone was the mother of six children, but only two of these survive her. These are the oldest and youngest of the number—Mrs. Chris. Collier of Ramona, S. D., and Miss Helen G. Stone of St. Paul. Thus a long and useful life has passed into rest. Funeral exercises were held in St. Paul and the remains were conveyed from the train directly to the cemetery chapel. Dr. McVettie officiated and rend the commitment service of the Episcopal church.Transcriber's Note: Her gravestone shows she was born in 1814.
